Most sporting equipment (golf bags, skis, snowboards, surfboards up to 75 in / 190 cm) counts as your standard checked bag within your ticket allowance. Non-motorized bicycles in a protective case up to 75 x 37.5 x 25.5 in (190 x 95 x 65 cm) are accepted with prior notice. Gear exceeding 50 lbs (23 kg) incurs a heavy bag fee ($100 USD / £65 / €75). Items over 70 lbs (32 kg) are not accepted at passenger check-in.
Small instruments (violins, violas) under 31 x 18 x 10 in (80 x 45 x 25 cm) travel free in the cabin in place of your larger hand luggage piece. Medium instruments (guitars, cellos) up to 55 x 20 x 18 in (140 x 50 x 46 cm) require purchasing an extra passenger seat. Larger instruments up to 99 lbs (45 kg) travel in the hold inside a rigid, hard-shell case (items over 50 lbs incur standard heavy bag fees).
Laptops, cameras, and drones must travel in cabin carry-on allocations. Spare lithium-ion batteries and standalone power banks are prohibited in checked luggage. Smart bags with non-removable batteries are barred from carriage. Televisions and monitors traveling in the hold carry no airline transit liability.
Subject to international Montreal Convention limits (~$1,700 USD). Mainline baggage is capped at 70 lbs (32 kg) and 75 in (190 cm) in length; heavier or larger items must route through IAG Cargo. Extra baggage allowances may be restricted on regional BA Cityflyer flights due to smaller aircraft cargo holds.
